In Central Florida, there is only one species of wheel bug that lives in the wild: the North American Wheel Bug (Arilus cristatus). Part of the assassin bug family, it is easily identified by the distinct, cogwheel-shaped crest on its back. It can deliver an extremely painful defensive bite, and is best handled with care. They're highly predatory insects!

That wouldn't be advised! They are highly toxic and may transmit diseases. My cats would try too though. They killed a snake the other day.
